NotFound Wiki:First Steps
Welcome to the Unit 404 wiki, an integral part of the "not found" web art project. This platform serves as an open and collaborative space for a broad range of cultural workers, from artists and writers to scientists and musicians. Its goal is to create a dynamic network where users can freely share and document their processes, tendencies, and histories.
Unlike traditional wikis or encyclopedias that adhere to strict formatting and a singular pursuit of "truth," this space is a workshop, an archive, and a potential graveyard for ideas. Users are encouraged to use the pages as a canvas for their creative and critical thinking, no matter how abstract. There is complete freedom to structure the layout of your pages, allowing you to build an online presence that truly reflects your work. The wiki can be used as a deeper layer of your own website, a catalogue for your projects, or even a digital sketchbook for your most speculative ideas.
This wiki isn't about rigid rules; it's about fostering new connections and conversations. It invites you to contribute, explore, and help develop a cloud of factual, conceptual, and spatial networks. It is a space designed to see what you'll create and how you will connect with your peers and the public within this unique environment.
The wiki is built on standard Wikimedia software, designed for straightforward and intuitive navigation. The primary navigation tools are found at the top of every page. The search bar is located in the upper right corner, allowing you to quickly find pages, users, and projects. A click on the logo or the "Main Page" link will always bring you back to the home screen.
For new users, we've compiled a list of important pages and projects in the sidebar on the left. This will help you get a quick overview and find your way around easily.
Accounts & Access
At this time, the wiki is a closed community, meaning access and editing privileges are granted by personal invitation only. This is to ensure a focused and manageable environment as the webspace develops. Once you receive your invitation and set up your account, you will be able to contribute and create.
Once your account is set up, two distinct pages are automatically generated for you: a User Page and an Article Page.
Your User Page is located at User:Username. It is your private workspace within the wiki, a place for personal notes, ideas, or work in progress. It is not part of the main content space of the wiki and can be used for any personal purposes you see fit.
Your Article Page is a separate, public space where you can introduce yourself to the community. You have the freedom to structure this page as a professional profile, a personal artist statement, or an in-depth biography. This is where you can connect with peers and the public, using the same creative freedom for layout and content as on any other article page.
