Image Uploading and Embedding

Before you can use an image on a wiki page, it must be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. This is the central repository for all media files used across Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and other projects.

1. Uploading an Image

Go to the Upload Wizard: The easiest way to upload is to use the dedicated Wikimedia Commons Upload Wizard.
Select a File: Choose the image file from your computer.
Provide Copyright and License Info: This is the most crucial step. You must declare that you are the creator and owner of the image and that you are releasing it under a free license (like Creative Commons Attribution, or CC BY). If the image is not yours, you must prove it's in the public domain or released under a compatible license.
Describe the File: Give your image a descriptive name (e.g., My-art-collective-sculpture.jpg), add a title, a description of the content, and categorize it (e.g.,).

2. Embedding an Image in an Article

Once your image is uploaded, you can add it to any wiki page using the [[File:]] command. The most common syntax is the thumbnail format.

   Simple Embed: [[File:Filename.jpg]]<nowiki>

Thumbnail with Caption: <nowiki>[[File:Filename.jpg|thumb|Caption text goes here.]]
Sized Thumbnail with Caption: [[File:Filename.jpg|thumb|250px|Caption text goes here.]]
thumb (or mini) creates a small thumbnail with a frame, which is standard for articles.
250px sets the width of the image. You can adjust this value.
The caption is the text that appears below the image.

3. Common Placement and Alignment

You can control the alignment of the image on the page using a simple parameter.

   Right Alignment (Default): [[File:Filename.jpg|thumb|right|Caption text.]]
   Left Alignment: [[File:Filename.jpg|thumb|left|Caption text.]]

Important Note on Copyright: Always remember that you cannot simply upload any image from the internet. All images must have a clear and compatible license. Failure to follow copyright rules will lead to the image being deleted from Wikimedia Commons.

Banners

There are a few banners you are encouraged to use on your article if it falls under specific categories. You can use these Templates to create your own banners aswell, for colors you can use the Google hex color tool.
